Why Families Choose Our Montessori School

Moving Grace Montessori School is located in the heart of the Lake Vista community of New Orleans. We are a private preschool serving students ages 3-6 years old. Our teachers are kind, loving, compassionate guides and enthusiastic about the Montessori Method. We seek to nurture and grow the whole child. Acknowledging and respecting that each child learns independently informs our individualized lesson planning. Building a sense of community through peace education, our school fosters an environment of kindness, tolerance, acceptance, and empathy.

Our Classroom Structure:

At Moving Grace Montessori School, we maintain a thoughtfully designed classroom environment that supports individualized attention and meaningful learning. Our primary classroom serves 28 children, guided by two co‑lead Montessori teachers and one assistant teacher, ensuring a balanced and nurturing atmosphere.

We uphold a 1:10 teacher‑to‑student ratio, allowing each child to receive the support, guidance, and encouragement they need to thrive. Our maximum class size is 32 students, at which point the classroom is supported by two lead teachers and two assistant teachers to maintain the same high standard of care and connection.

This structure reflects our commitment to creating a peaceful, well‑supported community where every child is known, valued, and able to grow at their own pace.

Our Curriculum:

MGMS is a Montessori‑based, child‑led learning environment where children are encouraged to explore, discover, and grow at their own pace. Our classroom is thoughtfully designed around five core curriculum areas—Practical Life, Sensorial, Language, Math, and Science/Geography—providing rich opportunities for hands‑on learning and independence.

We place a strong emphasis on social and emotional development, guiding children in peace education, grace and courtesy, and gentle conflict resolution. At MGMS, our goal is to nurture each child’s natural curiosity while fostering kindness, empathy, and a lifelong love of learning.

Parent Involvement:

At MGMS, we believe that a strong school community enriches every child’s experience. Throughout the year, we host a variety of community‑building events that bring families, students, and staff together in meaningful ways. Our Parent League plays an essential role in planning and supporting these gatherings, helping to create a vibrant and connected school culture.

We also welcome families to share their talents and interests by leading activities with the children during the year. To foster a spirit of shared responsibility, each family is asked to volunteer at least once per school year. This collective involvement strengthens our community and ensures that MGMS remains a warm, collaborative environment for all.

Community Building:

MGMS offers many opportunities for families to connect and build meaningful relationships throughout the year. We host family field trips, weekend fundraising events, and a variety of evening gatherings for both families and parents. While participation is not required, it is strongly encouraged, as these events help strengthen our school community and create lasting connections.

We also invite family members to visit the classroom to read a favorite book, share a hobby, introduce a cultural tradition, or highlight a special part of their heritage. In addition, families are welcome to sign up to support class parties and school events. These shared experiences enrich our program and help create a warm, collaborative environment for all of our students.

Assessments:

While MGMS does not participate in testing, we constantly assess the success of our lessons through observations. Teachers record lessons and observations on Transparent Classroom, and parents have access to their students’ records and pictures.  Parents are invited to meet with the teachers twice a year for parent-teacher conferences to discuss success and areas for improvement. Teachers can meet with you throughout the year if any concerns arise.

Lunch and snacks:

Children bring their lunch from home daily.

The school provides morning and aftercare snacks.

The students provide an afternoon snack. A snack calendar is provided, and each student will bring a snack four times throughout the year.

Communication:

Our MGMS App is the primary way we communicate with families. Through the app, parents can access parent group chats, message teachers and administration directly, receive instant school updates, and view important reminders, forms, and calendars—all in one place.

We also use Transparent Classroom to keep families informed about student lessons, activities, and progress. The app and Transparent Classroom are fully integrated and easily accessible, giving families a seamless way to stay connected to their child’s learning and to the school community.
